Groundbreaking for New Central Warehouse: SMB International Expands Its Quickborn Site

News

Quickborn, March 2026 – SMB International GmbH has officially commenced construction of a new warehouse at its headquarters at Max-Weber-Straße 14 in Quickborn with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony. With this investment, the company is expanding its capacity and reaffirming its commitment to continued growth at its Northern Germany site.

In addition to employees of the SMB Group, the ceremony was attended by the responsible representatives of HANSA Systembau GmbH, Franciska Langbehn and Gideon Deichmann. Also present were the Mayor of the City of Quickborn, Thomas Beckmann, and Linda Vogt-Gröncke from Wirtschaftsförderung Quickborn. Representing SMB, Lennard Dörges, Andreas Heckel and Merlin Heymann took part in the ceremonial groundbreaking.

In brief remarks, Andreas Heckel and Mayor Thomas Beckmann highlighted the significance of the project for both the company’s economic development and the Quickborn site.

The new facility will create a modern central warehouse with approximately 1,000 square meters of additional storage and order-picking space. In the future, raw materials and machine components will be centrally consolidated here. Thanks to its direct connection to the existing main assembly hall, transport routes can be significantly shortened and internal processes made more efficient. In addition, new flexible areas for storage and assembly will be created, sustainably streamlining production workflows.

A central loading area will also enable faster and more efficient handling of incoming and outgoing goods.

SMB is also setting clear priorities in terms of sustainability: the building will be constructed using a solid structure with timber trusses and will comply with current energy standards. Planned features include underfloor heating, the use of a heat pump, and a photovoltaic system for on-site power generation.

Construction began in March 2026. With a planned construction period of approximately eight months, structural completion is expected by the end of October, with turnkey handover scheduled for mid-December.

The construction of our new central warehouse is a clear commitment to the Quickborn location and to manufacturing in Northern Germany. At the same time, we are laying the foundation to further optimize our processes and drive our growth in a sustainable manner“, explains Andreas Heckel, CEO of SMB International GmbH.
