Automated Small Parts Warehouse

Storage and Order Picking for Containers, Cartons, and Trays

Handling Lightweight Load Containers

Automated small parts warehouse (SPW) is ideal for storing smaller and lighter goods such as cartons, bags and folding boxes with loads of 1-30 kilograms. We integrate SPWs into larger overarching concepts, for example in the project planning and execution of warehouses for the food and beverage industry or in healthcare.

In Combination with Heavy Duty Storage

In central warehouses, small parts warehouses can be combined with Automated Pallet Warehouses and heavy duty conveying technology (up to 1,500 kilograms) and container conveyor technology (up to 30 kilograms) to form an efficient internal logistics chain. These systems complement each other and allow for separate storage of heavy loads on pallets and small items in boxes. A single warehouse management system ensures both systems work together and helps improve intralogistics.

Suitable for Order Fulfillment and Distribution

Small parts warehouses are well suited for warehouse and distribution centers as well as the picking of goods. Adding various automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) helps shorten distances and increase throughput. The ability to easily store and pick items like clothing, books, or small electronic devices makes this solution ideal for e-commerce.

Several items are stored in boxes, crates or on trays in a storage system. These can be accessed either by people directly at the shelves or by driverless transport systems. Our automated small-parts warehouse is designed to optimize warehouse processes and facilitate picking processes.

Picking in the SPW

Our control software not only enables the storage of goods but also the connection to picking workstations – for efficient goods-to-person picking.

Step 1

The warehouse management system combines the requested goods into one order and hands it over to a picking workstation.

Step 2

The AS/RS removes the containers with the requested goods from the shelves and transports them to the picking workstation.

Step 3

The picker removes the needed items from the containers.

Step 4

The AS/RS transports the containers back to their position in the warehouse, while the warehouse management system updates the inventory.

Types of Small-Parts Warehouses

Modern small parts warehouses are designed for optimal space utilization. There are different types of systems which vary in structure and work with different operating devices.

Well-known systems include:

  • Automated small parts warehouse (SPW) with AS/RS, single deep and double deep

  • Automated Container Warehouse

Characteristics of Small Parts Warehouses

Space saving in warehouses

Small parts storage systems can be individually customized in size and shape. Whether for small warehouses or unique building geometries – we are happy to advise you on a tailor-made solution.

Short access times

Small parts storage systems are characterized by short access times and the automatic handling of product storage and retrieval. This increases throughput and speeds up the picking process.

Human-Machine Interaction

Robots and transport systems can completely take over storage and retrieval. This enables picking according to the goods-to-person principle.

Modular use

Modular and scalable small parts storage systems allow adaptation to changing intralogistics processes and can grow as needed. Goods can be stored in containers such as boxes or trays.

Advantages of Small Parts Warehouses

Automated small-parts warehouses are specially designed for light and small products. They offer the following advantages for material handling of products:

  • Automated handling of light loads up to 50 kilograms
  • Compact warehouse design
  • More storage space in existing buildings
  • Universally applicable across industries
  • Fast access to goods
  • Rapid retrieval
  • Conserves resources
  • Safe and efficient processes
  • Fast turnover of goods
  • Continuous inventory
  • Perpetual Inventory
