Making a career with custom-engineered machines
In our design and production halls in northern Germany, we create highly customized machines and systems, unique intralogistics for often complex requirements of the packaging, food and pharmaceutical industries.
We develop systems and equipment that do exactly what our customers need. This challenges us anew every day!
Here are a few examples of what we are currently working on:

Palletizer for the production of cat litter
Our customer wants to place up to 35 bags of cat litter per minute on a pallet using a very compact machine. The desired palletizer should also be able to handle different layer patterns and pallet formats. This makes this project a challenging engineering task!

Filling systems for medical raw materials
A chemical company needs a new filling systems for medical raw materials. Our team planned the machine, the clean room cabin, air locks and ventilation and air conditioning technology. All in accordance with the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) for consistent product quality.
Let's assume you work for us as a design engineer. In one project, your task could be to develop a conveyor system that transports extremely temperature-sensitive products. You not only have to consider the mechanical aspects, but also keep an eye on the thermodynamics. Perhaps you come up with the idea of using special insulating materials or integrating a new type of cooling system. You work closely with colleagues from electrical engineering and software development to create a holistic solution.
Or imagine you are part of our automation technology team. Your challenge could be to optimise an existing warehouse system in order to reduce throughput times.
You analyse current processes, identify bottlenecks and then develop a strategy for eliminating them. You may decide to use software-supported forecasting models to optimise inventory levels and picking routes. You program the control software, test it in simulations and finally accompany its implementation on site at the customer's premises.
These are just two examples of many. Every project brings new challenges that you can grow from. And the best part is that at the end of the day, you see how your work contributes to making business processes more efficient.
Fast coordination, flat hierarchy
We work for large corporations, but remain as flexible as a medium-sized company: direct communication instead of endless meetings, quick decisions instead of bureaucracy, and room for your own ideas and their implementation.
Every voice counts at our company – whether you are a newcomer or a project manager. We respond quickly to challenges and make decisions as a team, without long hierarchical paths.
Modern workplaces, technology and tools
As experienced engineers, we know how important good workplace equipment is. Large screens, a powerful computer and height-adjustable desks ensure efficient working. ESD protection, good lighting, precision tools and a high-quality microscope are essential. Ergonomic chairs and well-designed storage systems promote productivity and health.
And of course: good coffee must always be within reach!
State-of-the-art technology
As an engineer at SMB, you will work with state-of-the-art technology: 3D CAD with Autodesk Inventor, FEM simulations for component optimisation, PLC programming with Siemens TIA Portal and our own software for material flow control.
We continuously invest in new technologies and develop our own solutions when the market does not offer what we need. Your input counts – if you need a tool, we will find a solution!
Careers in mechanical engineering
At SMB, we are not just looking for engineers, but real problem solvers. People who don't give up when the going gets tough, but who rise to the occasion. You should be able to think creatively and outside the box to find new solutions.
At the same time, teamwork is very important to us. Our projects are often so complex that they can only be successfully implemented through the interaction of different departments. So you should not only be an expert in your field, but also have the ability to exchange ideas with colleagues from other departments and work together to develop solutions.
Technical Sales
In technical sales, you are the point of contact for our customers. With your technical understanding of intralogistics systems, you analyse our clients' requirements and develop suitable solution concepts for their challenges. Your task is to identify the possibilities of our systems and present them in a convincing manner. You provide expert advice to customers, prepare quotations and accompany projects from the initial idea to successful completion.

Intralogistics Project Manager
As a project manager at SMB, you will manage complete intralogistics projects – from initial planning to handover to the team on site. You will develop technical concepts, layouts and specifications for our automated high-bay warehouses and filling systems.
In project management, you will keep an eye on deadlines, budgets and quality standards and lead your project team of engineers and technicians. You will also be the link between customers, internal departments and suppliers. You will ensure that everything runs smoothly in the end!
For this job, you need a technical background. You should speak the language of our customers and be able to find the right solution even in critical situations. A job for people with engineering minds and leadership qualities.
Design Engineer
As a design engineer, you will plan and develop special-purpose machines for warehouse technology, palletising, conveyor technology or filling systems. You will also optimise existing machines and assemblies. You will create technical drawings, select components and take on CAD design tasks. Requirements: Degree in engineering or technical training with several years of experience in mechanical engineering.
Technical Draughtsmen
As a technical draughtsman, you will develop documentation for our conveyor and storage systems. Using CAD programmes such as Inventor, you will create maintenance plans and spare parts drawings. You will work closely with the design engineers and automation technicians to create technical drawings that enable our customers to get the most out of their systems. This is a job for technology enthusiasts with an eye for detail who enjoy working in a team.

Technical Editing
The technical editorial team is responsible for the complete documentation of the manufactured systems. The complete documentation includes operating instructions, maintenance and spare parts documentation, certificates and supplier documentation. The documentation is created in close cooperation with the mechanical and electronic design departments and other production departments.
PLC programming and commissioning at the customer's site
We need the expertise of experienced PLC programmers to commission our machines.
You will develop and program PLC controls for complex intralogistics systems – from automatic high-bay warehouses to intelligent conveyor systems. You will work with the Siemens TIA Portal and implement customer-specific requirements.
What should you bring to the table? A solid electrical engineering education or degree and proven experience in PLC programming. Knowledge of warehouse technology or conveyor systems is a plus, but not a must – you can also acquire this knowledge with us.
An important part of the job is supporting our customers on site. This means that you should be willing to travel. In return, you will experience first-hand how the systems you have programmed come to life and set the material flow in motion.
Does this sound like an exciting challenge for you? Then let's get in touch.

Electrical Design Automation Engineer / PLC Programmer / Commissioning Engineer
